Bold Prediction: Rookie QB Will Howard Could Start for Steelers in 2025

Could Will Howard see the field for the Steelers in 2025? One NFL analyst thinks so.

While most expect the quarterback battle in Pittsburgh to come down to Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso threw a curveball this week. He boldly predicted that Will Howard—yes, the rookie out of Ohio State by way of Kansas State—will end up starting at least one game for the Steelers this season.

Howard isn’t expected to push for a starting job right away, but Trapasso believes injuries or inconsistency could open the door. Considering Wilson’s age and Fields’ up-and-down NFL tenure so far, it’s not out of the question.

The Steelers took Howard in the later rounds with developmental hopes, but if Trapasso’s right, the rookie could be thrown into the fire sooner than expected. And if that happens, Pittsburgh fans will get an early glimpse at whether he might be more than just a long-term project.
