Bolts to Open Preseason vs. Lions in Hall of Fame Game, Face Familiar Faces Later

Get ready, Bolts fans—this preseason is going to be a little longer and a lot more interesting. With the Chargers set to kick off the NFL preseason in the Hall of Fame Game against the Detroit Lions, they’ll be one of only two teams (alongside Detroit) playing four preseason games this year.

It all begins July 31 in Canton, Ohio, when Jim Harbaugh leads the Chargers into his first preseason as head coach. From there, L.A. will return home to face the New Orleans Saints on August 10, then hit the road for games against the Rams (Aug. 16) and 49ers (date TBD).

The Saints game will have a little extra spice to it. It’ll be the first time former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley and former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore return to face their old team—though now they’ve swapped roles in New Orleans. Moore is the head coach and Staley is the offensive coordinator, which adds an intriguing twist to the mid-August matchup.

Last preseason, Harbaugh’s squad went 2-1, notching wins over both the Rams and 49ers while narrowly falling to the Saints. Now, with a new staff and new direction, the Bolts will look to use this extended preseason to fine-tune ahead of what’s expected to be a highly scrutinized 2025 campaign.
