Lions GM Speaks on Hutchinson Extension as EDGE Market Booms
With Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby resetting the market for elite edge rushers, the Lions know exactly what kind of investment it’s going to take to keep Aidan Hutchinson in Detroit long-term—and it’s not going to be cheap. General manager Brad Holmes admitted the team had already budgeted for a major payday, but with recent deals pushing past $35 million per year, that price tag just keeps climbing.
Hutchinson was on a tear in 2024 with 7.5 sacks in five games before a broken fibula ended his season. Now fully recovered, he’s a top priority for Detroit’s front office this offseason. While the Lions will certainly pick up his 2026 fifth-year option, it’s clear they’re eyeing a long-term deal to keep their homegrown star in Honolulu blue for years to come.
