Should the Detroit Lions Trade Amik Robertson? Why It Doesn’t Make Sense
The Detroit Lions’ 2024 season ended earlier than they hoped, with injuries on defense—particularly in the secondary—playing a huge role in their playoff exit. Now, as they gear up for 2025, the team has made key additions to bolster its cornerback depth. But could they still make a move to shake up the roster?
Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus recently highlighted one potential trade candidate for each NFL team, and for the Lions, he pointed to cornerback Amik Robertson. Locker noted that while Detroit made a big splash by signing D.J. Reed to replace Carlton Davis III, several defensive players are entering the final year of their contracts. That makes Robertson a logical trade piece.
“In his first year in Detroit, Robertson posted a 62.2 PFF coverage grade but excelled in run defense with an 89.7 grade,” Locker wrote. “With the Lions drafting Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the second round last year, they could look to get him more playing time by moving Robertson.”
