Giants head coach Brian Daboll isn’t rushing to decide whether he’ll handle play-calling duties in 2025. Speaking at the NFL owners’ meetings in Palm Beach, he said that choice will come closer to training camp.
“We’ll make that decision as we go,” Daboll said. “Whatever is best for the team, that’s what we’ll do.”
Last season, Daboll took over play-calling, but the offense still struggled, finishing 31st in scoring. Giants GM Joe Schoen and owner John Mara have hinted that giving up those duties might be best, but it’s ultimately Daboll’s call.
What About Travis Hunter?
If the Giants don’t draft a quarterback at No. 3, could they take two-way star Travis Hunter? Daboll praised Hunter’s talent but didn’t give away much.
“He’s a heck of a player,” Daboll said. “It’s been fun evaluating him.”
Still Looking for a QB
Despite adding Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, the Giants are still searching for their “quarterback of the future.” Daboll said they’re evaluating all options but won’t force a pick.
“You don’t know when they’re gonna get taken,” he said. “It’s about how you feel about a player and if he fits your team.”
Daboll won’t be at Colorado’s Pro Day to see Shedeur Sanders throw, preferring private workouts instead.
Doing His Homework on Wilson
Before signing Wilson, Daboll watched every play of his 13-year career.
“He makes good decisions, still has athleticism, and throws a phenomenal deep ball,” Daboll said.
With new QBs and draft decisions looming, the Giants have big choices ahead. The biggest? Whether Daboll sticks with play-calling or hands it off in hopes of turning things around.
