Brian Branch Declares Lions Defense ‘Better Than Ever’ After Learning From Last Season’s Challenges

Coming off a historic 15-win season in 2024, Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch is confident the team’s defense will be even more formidable in 2025. Speaking with the Detroit Free Press, Branch said the adversity they faced last year has forged a tighter, more resilient unit.

“I feel like we’re better than last year,” Branch shared. “We’re hungry. Our chemistry is on a whole new level. We’ve been through battles together, and that’s made us stronger.”

Detroit’s defense impressed last season, finishing seventh in points allowed. But their playoff run ended painfully, surrendering 45 points to the Commanders while missing key starters like Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, and Carlton Davis. Injuries took a toll, but Branch sees a silver lining: the team’s trials have sparked a deeper commitment to their Super Bowl mission.

“Last year, injuries were against us,” he said. “This year, everyone’s coming back healthy and focused.”

Branch himself is coming off a breakout season after shifting from slot corner to safety. He posted 109 tackles, four interceptions, and earned a Pro Bowl nod, proving his versatility and playmaking ability.

With training camp set to kick off in mid-July, the Lions are eager to prove they’re ready to finish what they started—and Branch believes their defense will set the tone.
