The Denver Broncos are making moves this offseason, and one of the names that’s been in the spotlight is wide receiver Courtland Sutton. A Pro Bowler in 2019, Sutton is entering the final year of a reworked two-year, $27.5 million contract, after the Broncos renegotiated his initial four-year, $60 million deal.
Sutton is expected to attend the Broncos’ offseason training program, starting April 21, thanks to some good-faith negotiations between him and the team, according to Mike Klis of 9News. The Broncos are aware that Sutton is due for a new deal, especially with 25 receivers set to make more than him in 2025. His current deal is set to count $20.2 million against the cap in a walk year, but he’s coming off a solid 2024 season with 81 catches, 1,084 yards, and 8 touchdowns. That puts him in solid company, as only six receivers had better stats.
Despite some people, like Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, calling Sutton “overpaid,” others, including Altitude Sports’ Brett Kane, think his salary is fair. Kane argued that Sutton’s production matches his $20 million salary, and the Broncos seem to be in agreement, as GM George Paton and head coach Sean Payton both expressed confidence in Sutton’s role with the team moving forward.
There’s also been talk about Sutton possibly getting a raise, with his current $20 million cap hit ranked 10th among receivers for 2025. A new deal could free up some cap space for the Broncos, potentially around $9.8 million. However, any final deal will likely wait until after the NFL draft in late April. In the meantime, Sutton has shown he’s committed to the team by continuing to lead through the offseason.
