For most of this offseason, the big contract talk surrounding the Dallas Cowboys has been about Micah Parsons—and for good reason. They probably should’ve handled his extension last offseason when he first became eligible, but here we are, still waiting.
Now, another name has entered the chat: DaRon Bland. The record-breaking cornerback (remember those five pick-sixes in a season?) is now eligible for an extension, and considering he’s coming off a bit of a down year, the Cowboys might want to act fast before his price goes up again.
Cowboys executive Stephen Jones recently addressed this at the NFL owners’ meetings, saying they’re interested in locking up both Bland and Jake Ferguson long-term. Of course, deals take two sides to agree, and while players and their agents focus on getting the best possible deal for themselves (which they should), the front office has to think about the big picture.
The cornerback market is heating up too. We’ve already seen Jaycee Horn (Panthers) and Derek Stingley Jr. (Texans) cash in this offseason, and Trent McDuffie (Chiefs) could be next. If Dallas waits too long, Bland’s price tag could skyrocket.
So, what do you think? Should the Cowboys lock him up now, or should they hold off? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
