Buckeye Bound! Indiana Transfer Gabe Cupps Takes His Talents to OSU

Gabe Cupps Transfers to Ohio State, Bringing Big Hopes to the Buckeyes

Ohio State just landed its first transfer of the offseason, and it’s a familiar name for Indiana fans  Gabe Cupps. The former Hoosiers guard announced his commitment on Wednesday, making him the first of Indiana’s five transfers to choose a new school.

Cupps, a Dayton, Ohio native, is coming back home after missing most of the 2024-25 season due to a torn meniscus. If granted a medical redshirt, he’ll have three years of eligibility left with the Buckeyes.

As a freshman at Indiana, Cupps played in 33 games, averaging 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 21.6 minutes per game. Unfortunately, this past season was cut short after just four games due to injury.

A former high school star, Cupps was named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball in 2022 and was ranked as the No. 94 overall prospect in the 2023 class. His return to Ohio is a big storyline, though not everyone is convinced it’s the right move for Ohio State. Some critics argue he hasn’t proven himself yet at the college level.

Still, for Cupps, it’s a fresh start and a chance to prove himself back in his home state. Buckeyes fans will be watching closely to see if he can make an impact.
