Jason Licht Hints Draft’s Loaded With Defensive Tackles
When it comes to breaking down draft prospects, one guy worth paying attention to is Greg Cosell from NFL Films. The guy basically learned how to scout from legendary coach Bill Walsh, so he knows his stuff. Cosell’s stayed connected with NFL coaches and insiders over the years, and every offseason, you can spot him at the combine, chatting with coaches, execs, and even players.
On a recent episode of the Ross Tucker Podcast, Cosell mentioned that someone “in the know” told him that up to 20 defensive Tackles could get picked in the first two nights of the draft. That’s a big number.
So last week, Bucs GM Jason Licht got asked about it. He didn’t shut the idea down actually, he agreed it could happen. Licht said once a position starts going fast in the draft, it can snowball.
“Potentially, I guess,” Licht said. “Anything is possible. You go on a run at a position, then all of a sudden, they can all go pretty quickly.”
The draft really is loaded with defensive tackles this year. That’s why it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Bucs grab one early. Vita Vea’s contract is up next year, and if Tampa makes a Super Bowl run, he’ll be 31. Just imagine pairing a beast like Walter Nolen or Kenneth Grant with Calijah Kancey and Vea that rotation would destroy offensive lines.
