Buffalo Bills GM Responds to Keon Coleman Criticism   Here’s What He Really Meant

Bills GM Clears the Air on ‘Disappointed’ Comment About Keon Coleman

The Buffalo Bills had high hopes when they grabbed former Florida State star Keon Coleman early in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. With quarterback Josh Allen leading the charge, Buffalo was aiming for a Super Bowl run, and while they came close, they ultimately fell short.

As for Coleman, his rookie season was a bit of a rollercoaster. He had moments where he showed flashes of brilliance, but a mid-season wrist injury set him back. Even after returning, he didn’t quite look like himself, struggling to get back to full strength.

In an interview on January 30, Bills general manager Brandon Beane admitted he was “a little disappointed” in how Coleman looked after his injury. He felt the rookie wasn’t playing with the same physicality he’d shown earlier in the year.

“I did not see the same player down the stretch from a physicality [standpoint], some of the things that he needs to use his size,” Beane said. “Some of that is youth, some of that is [him] not having experience with in-season injuries and coming back from them.”

Fast forward to this week’s NFL Owners Meetings in Palm Beach, and Beane made sure to clarify his comments. He stressed that he isn’t worried about Coleman’s future and still believes in his potential.

“There were a lot of positives in [my] comments, too,” Beane explained. “Keon did a lot of good things. And I want to remind people, this young man was 21 years old. I didn’t have it all together at 21, so I want us all to remember to be fair. Playing receiver is hard… so I’m not sitting here today concerned about where Keon Coleman’s at.”

Coleman finished his rookie year with 29 catches for 556 yards and four touchdowns. His best game came in a blowout win against the Tennessee Titans, where he racked up 125 yards on just four catches. But when the playoffs rolled around, he had just three receptions for 22 yards across three games.

     Coleman’s Time at FSU

Before entering the NFL, Coleman made a big impact in his lone season at Florida State. The Louisiana native transferred to FSU in 2023 and made an immediate splash, debuting with nine catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns against LSU.

Throughout the season, he kept delivering highlight-reel plays whether it was a jaw-dropping hurdle, a one-handed snag, or the game-winning overtime touchdown against Clemson. He finished the year with 50 catches, 658 yards, and 11 touchdowns, earning first-team All-ACC honors as both a receiver and return specialist.

Coleman’s time in Tallahassee was short, but he cemented his name in the Seminoles’ record books. Now, as he gears up for his second NFL season, all eyes are on him to take the next step.
