“Camp Countdown’s On — and So Might Be This Defender’s Career 😳”

Lions Might Cut Ties With DT Brodric Martin Before Camp Even Starts

The Lions had a killer 2024 season — 15-2! But all that momentum crashed in the playoffs, thanks in part to one major issue: depth. Detroit got hit hard by injuries, losing 13 players to season-ending IR, which helped set up that rough loss to Washington in the divisional round.

So what did the front office do? They spent the offseason beefing up the defense, especially the D-line. But here’s the thing — only so many guys can make the roster when training camp kicks off.

Now, it looks like Brodric Martin might be on the outside looking in.

Martin was a third-round pick in 2023, but he’s barely seen the field since — just five games in two years, four total tackles, no sacks. Ouch. Injuries have slowed him down, and while he reportedly dropped 14 pounds and is in great shape, it might be too little, too late.

Meanwhile, the Lions brought back Levi Onwuzurike, signed Roy Lopez, and drafted Tyleik Williams in the first round. That room is suddenly packed. And don’t forget about Mekhi Wingo, a 2024 sixth-rounder who’s making his case, too.

With Alim McNeill still recovering from an ACL tear, you’d think Martin might get a chance — but nope. The Lions have bigger roster questions elsewhere (like sorting out their linebacker chaos), and it’s looking more and more like Martin might be the odd man out before camp even begins.

Bottom line: Brodric Martin needs a miracle camp to stick around, and even then, it might not be enough.
