Campbell Stays Confident Amid Lions’ Coordinator Changes

Dan Campbell isn’t sweating the changes in his coaching staff. Despite losing both offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Bears and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to the Jets, the Lions’ head coach is confident in the team’s ability to move forward without missing a beat.

Speaking at the NFL Annual League Meetings, Campbell acknowledged the value of continuity but made it clear he trusts the new faces leading his offense and defense. John Morton, a former Lions assistant and most recently the Broncos’ passing game coordinator, steps in as offensive coordinator. Meanwhile, former linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard has been promoted to defensive coordinator.

“John Morton stepping in as offensive coordinator, somebody I trust, I’ve been around, he was here when we built this thing back up in ’22,” Campbell said. “And then Kelvin Sheppard’s been here, man. It’s not like we’ll be starting from scratch with somebody I don’t know.”

Rather than seeing the coaching changes as a setback, Campbell believes they could bring fresh ideas and improvements to the team as Detroit pushes toward its ultimate goal: a Super Bowl appearance.
