The Detroit Lions have a lot to worry about, including building a competitive roster in a tough NFC. Dan Campbell also needs to replace several coaches, including coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.
Johnson left to join the Chicago Bears, and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is now in charge of the New York Jets. The Lions have made some new hires, including Tashard Choice as running backs coach. Choice has received strong testimonials from former players, with ex-Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue calling him a “genius when it comes to the running back position.”
Choice has a strong background, having coached Pro Bowl standout Bijan Robinson. He also has a connection with Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs from his days at Georgia Tech. The Lions are hoping Choice can help keep their ground game strong.
Replacing Johnson will be hard, but Choice may be able to keep the running game efficient while new offensive coordinator John Morton works on keeping Jared Goff in rhythm. The true test of Campbell’s ability to put a staff together will be proving he didn’t just get lucky with the Johnson and Glenn hires. The strong shows of support for Choice could be a sign that Campbell has a perfect plan in place.
