The Detroit Lions have had high hopes over the past couple of seasons. In 2023, they showed they could hang with the NFC’s best, nearly knocking off the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. They came into 2024 with big expectations, and they delivered, finishing the regular season with an impressive 15-2 record. But things fell apart in the postseason as they were bounced in the first round.
With those same high hopes for the 2025 season, the pressure is now squarely on QB Jared Goff, who was ranked fourth by CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr in a list of QBs facing the most pressure to win the Super Bowl. Goff has some big names ahead of him on that list, including Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen.
Goff’s first crack at a Super Bowl came back in 2018 with the Los Angeles Rams, but it didn’t end well. He struggled, throwing for only 19 completions on 38 attempts, with an interception, leading to a 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history. Goff took much of the blame for that loss. But since joining the Lions, he’s shown he’s way more capable than that performance.
Goff has turned Detroit into a legitimate contender, and if they make another playoff run, he’ll need to avoid mistakes like his three-interception game against the Commanders. However, his consistent performances three seasons over 4,000 passing yards and a fifth-place finish in MVP voting last season give fans hope that last year’s playoff stumble was just a fluke.
For Goff, the road to another Super Bowl goes through a tough NFC North and some serious competition in the playoffs, but with the Lions looking to make a serious run in 2025, all eyes will be on him to lead them to that elusive championship.
