Case for Continuity: Why Detroit Should Re-Sign Every ERFA

The Detroit Lions have a simple decision to make regarding their exclusive-rights free agents (ERFAs) this offseason—bring them all back. Since ERFAs have little negotiating power, Detroit can retain them on league-minimum contracts, making it a no-brainer to keep valuable depth pieces at a low cost.

Among the four ERFAs, Trevor Nowaske stands out as the easiest decision. The linebacker and special teams ace played in 14 games last season, recording an interception and two sacks. Mitchell Agude, an EDGE rusher with an impressive preseason, also has untapped potential. Meanwhile, offensive linemen Connor Galvin and Michael Niese provide depth at key positions. Given their affordability and developmental upside, there’s no reason for the Lions to let any of them walk.
