Chaos Grows as Trump Official Branded ‘Dazed and Confused’

Trump’s Commerce Secretary Called ‘Dazed and Confused’ as Tariff Chaos Grows

Things are getting messy in Washington, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is catching serious heat for it. According to the editor-in-chief of the conservative National Review, Lutnick is making things worse instead of calming the storm as markets react to the Trump administration’s constantly changing tariff plans.

With the government bouncing back and forth on tariff amounts and start dates, Wall Street’s been in a tailspin. And Rich Lowry of the National Review thinks Lutnick, a billionaire-turned-Cabinet member, is adding fuel to the fire.

Lowry didn’t hold back in an article bluntly titled “Howard Lutnick Makes No Sense.”  He even joked that while Elon Musk hasn’t publicly insulted Lutnick yet, maybe he should.

The criticism focused on Lutnick’s shaky TV appearances, which Lowry said created more confusion than clarity for both everyday Americans and Wall Street. His arguments for Trump’s tariffs, according to Lowry, are scattered, make little economic sense, and seem disconnected from reality.

One of the weirdest moments? Lutnick’s claim that selling more farm goods overseas would help lower food prices in the U.S.   even though a trade war with China would likely block American farmers from one of their biggest markets, just like it did before.

Lowry also mentioned that plenty of people in the Trump administration are fed up with Lutnick’s tough, abrasive style. But personality clashes aside, the bigger issue, he said, is that one of the loudest defenders of Trump’s shaky economic policy sounds totally lost.
