Could the Bears Trade D’Andre Swift After Just One Season?
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has made it clear—he’s tearing down the offense and rebuilding it from the ground up around rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. That could mean making some tough roster decisions, including potentially moving on from one of the team’s highest-paid offensive players: running back D’Andre Swift.
According to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, a trade involving Swift could be on the table. One scenario sees the Bears sending Swift and his $24 million contract to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a fifth-round pick (No. 144 overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft.
A Familiar Situation for Johnson
Swift and Johnson have some history. During their brief time together in Detroit, Swift had the fewest carries and snaps of his career in 2022. The Lions then traded him to the Eagles in 2023, opting instead to sign David Montgomery and draft Jahmyr Gibbs. Now, with Johnson leading the Bears, there’s speculation that history could repeat itself.
Swift’s performance in 2024 didn’t do much to solidify his place in Chicago’s long-term plans. Despite coming close to 1,000 rushing yards, he averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry and had seven games with fewer than 40 rushing yards. While his contract makes him difficult to cut, a trade could be an option if Johnson sees a better fit elsewhere.
With power back Roschon Johnson still under contract and a deep 2025 draft class loaded with running back talent, the Bears could be tempted to make a move. If they do, the Raiders—who had the NFL’s worst rushing attack in 2024—might be the perfect trade partner.
