Coach Prime’s Not Going Anywhere—Signs Huge Deal to End NFL Rumors

Deion Sanders Shuts Down NFL Talk with Huge Contract Extension

So much for those NFL rumors   Deion Sanders isn’t going anywhere.

After turning Colorado football into one of the most talked-about programs in the country, Coach Prime just landed a massive five-year, $54 million extension to stay with the Buffaloes through 2029. That means he’ll be making $10 million per year to start, with his salary climbing to $12 million by the end of the deal. That’s NFL-level money for a program that wasn’t even in the national conversation a few years ago.

This deal does two things. First, it officially puts an end to the speculation that Sanders might jump to the NFL   especially those persistent Dallas Cowboys rumors. Second, it proves Colorado is fully committed to him. The Board of Regents approved the deal, and it puts him in the same pay range as some of the biggest names in college football, like Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney.

“We’ve just scratched the surface of what this program can be,” Sanders said. “It’s not just about football; it’s about developing young men who are ready to take on the world.”

Of course, he also threw in a joke about looking for a five-bedroom house with some acreage, but make no mistake   he’s locked in and ready to build something special.

In his first season, Colorado finished 4-8, but the energy and attention around the program were undeniable. Then, in 2024, the Buffs shocked everyone with a 9-4 record in their return to the Big 12. Now, with the College Football Playoff expanding, Colorado is officially back in the mix.

Sanders has been proving people wrong his whole career. They doubted him at Jackson State, they doubted him at Colorado, and now he’s one of the highest-paid coaches in the game. With this extension, he has the resources and backing to keep building, keep recruiting, and keep Colorado in the national spotlight.

And for now? The NFL rumors are officially off the table.
