Coach Tom Coughlin Makes Comeback at Syracuse for Spring Football Saturday

Tom Coughlin, the former New York Giants head coach and two-time Super Bowl champ, recently made his way back to Syracuse for the school’s first-ever Franchise Coaches Clinic. Before he became a legend in the NFL, Coughlin had a standout college career at Syracuse as both a player and a coach. As a wingback under Coach Ben Schwartzwalder, he played alongside future NFL stars Larry Csonka and Floyd Little, even setting a school record for receiving yards in his senior year.

Coughlin returned to Syracuse this weekend, reuniting with his old teammates for the school’s annual spring scrimmage at the Carrier Dome. The trio, along with Csonka and Little, had a great college run in 1966, helping Syracuse achieve an 8-3 record and earn the Lambert Trophy as the top team in the East.

Coughlin’s coaching career began as a grad assistant at Syracuse in 1969, and he went on to have a successful career in both college and the NFL, including a key role in Syracuse’s first bowl appearance in 13 years.
