Bala will be working alongside former Alabama safety Vinnie Sunseri, who will also be handling defensive play-calling duties. This reunion of sorts is interesting, given that all three coaches have ties to Saban.
Bala’s coaching experience includes stops at several schools, including Alabama, Washington, and Arizona State. He has a reputation for being a strong recruiter and developer of talent.
At Florida, Bala will be tasked with helping to turn around a defense that struggled at times in 2023. The Gators finished the season ranked 10th in the SEC in total defense, allowing an average of 405.5 yards per game.
Bala’s hiring is seen as a significant coup for Florida head coach Billy Napier, who is looking to build a strong coaching staff as he enters his third season at the helm of the Gators.
