College Football Futures: Heisman Buzz, Win Predictions, and Arch Manning Hype

Jalen Milroe Might Be Coming for Sam Darnold’s Job in Seattle

The Seahawks grabbed Jalen Milroe in the third round of the NFL Draft hoping to let him learn and grow for a bit. But apparently, he’s already making waves—and some folks think he could steal the starting QB gig from Sam Darnold sooner than expected.

A writer from The Sporting News even listed Milroe as one of the top rookies who could knock a veteran out of a starting spot. It’s giving serious déjà vu to when Russell Wilson beat out Matt Flynn for the Seahawks job back in 2012—Flynn had a fat contract, and Wilson, a third-rounder, just outplayed him.

Now, Milroe isn’t quite the polished passer Wilson was coming out of college, but his athleticism is off the charts. Seattle plans to use that in certain play packages this year, while Darnold—who signed a three-year, $100 million deal (but really only has one guaranteed year)—holds down the main QB role. For now.

The buzz is only getting louder after Milroe’s first Rookie Mini-Camp with Seattle. Not only did he show off his physical skills, but he also looked like a natural leader. Coaches and teammates are already taking notice. If he keeps this up, Darnold’s starting spot might not be as safe as it seems heading into 2026.
