Could Detroit Lose Kevin Zeitler to the Dark Side?

The Detroit Lions could be at risk of losing one of their key offensive linemen, as veteran guard Kevin Zeitler has emerged as a potential target for the rival Chicago Bears. According to the Chicago Tribune, the Bears are actively seeking to upgrade their interior offensive line, and Zeitler, who turns 35 on March 8, could be an ideal fit.

Despite his age, Zeitler proved in 2024 that he still has plenty left in the tank. He was one of the Lions’ most reliable linemen, earning an impressive 86.8 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, including a dominant 87.2 run-blocking grade—ranking third-best in the NFL. His experience and consistency make him a valuable asset, and Chicago could see him as a key piece in protecting their potential new franchise quarterback, Caleb Williams.

Adding another layer of intrigue is Zeitler’s past interest in the Bears. While the Lions will likely make an effort to retain him, Chicago could offer a more lucrative contract, forcing Detroit into a tough decision. Losing Zeitler would be a blow to an already uncertain offensive line, as the Lions also have Jonah Jackson set to hit free agency.

With free agency fast approaching, Zeitler’s decision could have a major impact on both the Lions and their biggest divisional rival. Will he remain loyal to Detroit, or will he make the jump to Chicago and join former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson on what some fans are calling the “Dark Side”?
