Don’t be surprised if the Lions go after not one—but two—pass rushers in this year’s NFL Draft. That’s the latest take from draft analyst Nick Baumgardner, who sees Detroit pulling a repeat of last year’s cornerback approach by doubling up on a key position of need.
In Baumgardner’s recent three-round mock, he slotted Ohio State’s J.T. Tuimoloau to Detroit in the second round, followed by Michigan’s Josiah Stewart in the third. It’s a complementary pairing: Tuimoloau would serve as a strong-side edge setter, helping Aidan Hutchinson draw better matchups, while Stewart would be a designated pass-rush specialist in obvious passing situations.
It’s a logical move. The Lions still need depth behind Hutchinson, and Stewart—despite his size—brings explosiveness that could mirror the impact James Houston once made. And like last year’s Terrion Arnold/Ennis Rakestraw combo, having two young players come in together could foster faster development. With the Lions aiming to win now, adding versatile edge talent could be a smart, aggressive play.
