Could the Lions Trade for a Veteran Pass Rusher Before Camp? One Name to Watch

The Detroit Lions aren’t done building their roster just yet—and one notable name has popped up as a potential trade target: Cameron Jordan.

Yep, that Cameron Jordan.

The eight-time Pro Bowl edge rusher could be an intriguing option for the Lions as they continue searching for a dependable presence opposite Aidan Hutchinson. While there are still a few free-agent options out there like Za’Darius Smith, Jadeveon Clowney, Carl Lawson, and Matthew Judon, a trade might make more sense for Detroit at this point.

According to Mike Payton of A to Z Sports, the Lions could look to strike a deal with the Saints for Jordan. New Orleans wouldn’t save much cap space by moving on from him—just $1.26 million—and they likely wouldn’t get much back in terms of draft picks either. So if the Saints are looking to transition to younger talent, a deal could be on the table.

For Detroit, the logic is simple: They need another reliable edge rusher. Jordan, while no longer in his prime, still showed he has something left in the tank. In 2024, he recorded four sacks, 28 pressures, and 21 stops—ranking 45th among edge defenders, per Pro Football Focus.

He might not be the flashiest name anymore, but compared to Marcus Davenport, who’s dealt with consistent injury issues, Jordan offers proven durability and leadership. Plus, the Saints would eat most of his salary, meaning Detroit wouldn’t be locked into a big financial commitment.

If Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell are serious about making another deep playoff push, bringing in a veteran like Jordan could be a low-risk move with a solid upside.

Let’s see if the Lions make a call.
