Several Quality Free Agents Are Still on the Market—Should the Rams Make a Move?
As the dust settles on the 2025 NFL free agency period, the Los Angeles Rams have positioned themselves as serious contenders in the NFC. They’ve addressed key roster gaps through strategic signings, shoring up their receiving corps, interior offensive line, defensive front, and secondary.
However, the free-agent market isn’t completely dried up yet. A handful of intriguing names remain available—players who could add depth, versatility, and even starting potential to the Rams’ roster. While many teams may wait until after the NFL Draft to make additional moves (to avoid impacting the compensatory pick formula), LA could still explore these options to maximize their roster ahead of training camp.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the best remaining fits for the Rams.
Asante Samuel Jr., CB – A Risk Worth Taking?
Samuel remains one of the most talented cornerbacks on the market. After a promising start with the Chargers, his 2024 season was cut short due to injury, which may explain why he’s still unsigned.
With the Rams already bringing back Ahkello Witherspoon, adding Samuel would give them a legitimate boost in coverage, particularly in a division that features elite quarterbacks. Financially, LA could create space by moving on from Darious Williams or Derion Kendrick, saving around $3 million. If Samuel is fully recovered, he could be a valuable addition to the secondary.
Isaiah Simmons, LB/DB – A Defensive Chess Piece
Simmons, a former first-round pick, remains an enigma. His athleticism and versatility are undeniable, but he has yet to carve out a defined role in the NFL.
The Rams signed Nate Landman to help against the run, but they still lack a linebacker with high-end pass coverage skills. Simmons, a converted safety, could be the answer. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula might be the right coach to finally unlock his potential, especially in a hybrid role that capitalizes on his speed and length.
Jedrick Wills, OT – A Buy-Low Swing Tackle Option
Still just 25 years old, Wills has the talent to be a starting-caliber tackle, but injuries and inconsistency led to his departure from the Browns.
For the Rams, he could serve as a swing tackle in 2025 while also providing long-term insurance if Rob Havenstein, 32, departs after this season. The concern? Wills has never played right tackle in the NFL, making his potential fit uncertain. But at a modest price, he could be a low-risk, high-reward depth addition.
Chukwuma Okorafor, OT – A More Natural Right Tackle Fit
If LA prefers a more natural backup for Havenstein, Okorafor could be the better option. The former Steeler and Patriot has starting experience at right tackle and is still just 27 years old.
While not a flashy signing, he’d provide stability as a depth piece, which could be crucial in a season where the Rams are aiming for a deep playoff run.
John Cominsky, iDL – Reinforcing the Defensive Front
Cominsky is a productive rotational defensive lineman who has made an impact with both the Lions and Falcons. Even after signing Poona Ford, the Rams could benefit from adding another interior presence, especially after losing Bobby Brown and Neville Gallimore in free agency.
Given how often teams rotate defensive linemen, securing extra depth could pay off in the long run.
CJ Henderson, CB – A Last-Chance Investment?
Henderson’s NFL career has been underwhelming, but the former top-10 pick still has the physical traits that made him such a coveted prospect.
At 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, he offers size and athleticism that the Rams’ current group lacks. With Emmanuel Forbes already in the mix, adding Henderson would be another low-cost, high-upside gamble. If it works, LA gets a talented corner on the cheap. If not, there’s little risk involved.
Will the Rams Make Another Move?
The Rams have already built a strong roster heading into 2025, but there’s always room for improvement. With several talented free agents still available, LA has the opportunity to further solidify its depth before the season begins.
Whether they make a move now or wait until after the draft, these remaining free agents could help push the Rams even closer to another deep postseason run.
