Could the Cowboys Have Their Next QB in Joe Milton?
The Dallas Cowboys might have their quarterback situation locked down for now with Dak Prescott, but what about the future? ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler thinks they should start planning ahead—and he’s got a surprising name in mind.
Fowler recently suggested that the Cowboys should consider trading for New England Patriots QB Joe Milton. While Milton isn’t a household name just yet, he’s been turning heads, especially after a strong performance in Week 18 last season.
Why Milton?
Milton, a 6-foot-5 quarterback with a big arm, was drafted by the Patriots in 2024. But with Drake Maye cemented as New England’s future starter, Milton could be up for grabs. According to Fowler, Dallas is looking for a young backup with potential, and Milton could fit that role perfectly.
In his only real action last season against the Buffalo Bills, Milton completed 22-of-29 passes for 241 yards, threw a touchdown, and even ran for one. His performance earned him the highest PFF grades among all quarterbacks in Week 18.
The Price Tag
Reports say the Patriots want a third-round pick for Milton, which might seem steep for a former sixth-rounder. But if the Cowboys see him as a possible long-term successor to Prescott, it could be worth the gamble.
Prescott, now locked in through 2028, will be 35 when his contract is up. While he’s still playing at a high level, injuries have been a concern. With 26 missed games since 2020, Dallas may want to secure a solid backup who could take over when the time comes.
Will Jerry Jones Make a Move?
If the Cowboys believe Milton could be their next guy, they’ll need to act fast before another team snags him. For now, Prescott is the face of the franchise but could Milton be waiting in the wings?
