Cam Sutton’s DV Case Dropped — Ex-Lion Cleared to Move On
Cam Sutton, the former Detroit Lions cornerback, is officially out of legal hot water. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the domestic violence case hanging over Sutton’s head since 2024 has been dismissed. His agent says he’s ready to move on, both legally and professionally.
The case stemmed from a disturbing incident in Florida back in March 2024. Sutton was accused of hitting, biting, and choking his then-girlfriend until she briefly passed out. After the alleged assault, Sutton vanished — ditching communication and dodging authorities. Meanwhile, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest.
Turns out, when the news first broke, Sutton was actually at the Lions’ facility in Allen Park, working out like nothing had happened. Team president Rod Wood said Sutton showed up unexpectedly, chatted with staff, then disappeared — and was cut by the team the next day. The Lions never heard from him again.
After the fallout in Detroit, Sutton re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he had previously spent most of his career. But his return wasn’t exactly triumphant. He sat out the first eight games due to a suspension and made minimal impact when he did hit the field — just 15 tackles and 3 pass breakups in 9 games. The Steelers chose not to bring him back.
Now that his legal slate is clean, Sutton is technically a free agent — healthy and available. But given the serious nature of the past allegations and his quiet return to football, whether any team will take that risk remains to be seen.
