The Dallas Cowboys are on the hunt for a backup QB after Cooper Rush left for Baltimore, and the NFL Draft could provide some options. While the 12th pick doesn’t offer elite choices, three quarterbacks stand out: Jaxson Dart, Quinn Ewers, and Jalen Milroe. Each one has their own strengths, but the Cowboys need to decide who’s the best fit.
The Cowboys have had luck in the past with late-round or undrafted QBs who became stars, like Roger Staubach, Tony Romo, and Dak Prescott. However, with Prescott earning $60 million per year, spending high draft picks on a backup could hurt the team’s chances of improving Dak’s supporting cast.
Dart has the arm and confidence but lacks consistency. At 6-2, 220 pounds, he’s a project with a lot of potential but could be a first-round pick, making him less likely for Dallas. Ewers from Texas has the most potential as a passer, boasting a cannon of an arm and the ability to make tough throws. While he struggles with pressure and injuries, his talent is undeniable, and many think he could go in the second round, making him a good fit for the Cowboys if he falls.
Milroe from Alabama is the most dynamic of the bunch. He’s a true dual-threat with great speed and a strong arm, but his mechanics need work. If the Cowboys want to tailor their offense for a mobile QB, Milroe could be the guy. However, he’s still the rawest of the three, which might make him the most likely pick for Dallas. With Prescott as a mentor, whoever they choose could eventually be the future QB for “America’s Team.”
