The Cowboys have started talking with Osa Odighizuwa’s agent about a possible new deal before he hits free agency next month. Team executive Stephen Jones confirmed this in an interview with The Dallas Morning News.
Odighizuwa had a solid season, racking up 4.5 sacks and 23 quarterback hits—stats that could make him a hot commodity if he tests the market. Jones made it clear the team values him, calling him an “important piece” of their defense.
Dallas has used the franchise tag plenty of times in the past, but they’re not expected to use it on Odighizuwa since it would cost them $23.4 million for 2025. The transition tag, which would be $18.9 million, is still on the table, though. Jones said they haven’t ruled it out and will see how negotiations go.
Aside from Odighizuwa, the Cowboys also hope to keep cornerback Jourdan Lewis and running back Rico Dowdle. Meanwhile, DeMarcus Lawrence’s future with the team is uncertain after playing just four games last season. If he wants to keep playing, the Cowboys are open to bringing him back.
