Jerry Jones, who serves as both the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, continues to hold the reins of the organization while remaining its most prominent figure. The team’s reported choice for head coach reflects Jones’ preference for familiarity, with someone he knows and trusts.

Brian Schottenheimer appears to be the predictable selection. An experienced offensive mind, Schottenheimer seems to align with Jones’ vision, as he’s unlikely to challenge the owner’s authority over roster decisions or compete for the spotlight—a role Jones has always embraced.

This isn’t to diminish Schottenheimer’s accomplishments. As the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, he helped Dak Prescott deliver the best season of his career in 2023. Over 25 years in the NFL, Schottenheimer has built a strong resume as an offensive coordinator, though it’s worth noting that he hasn’t called plays in Dallas.

Still, this potential hire isn’t sitting well with Cowboys fans. Even the idea of interviewing “Schotty” has sparked frustration among the fanbase, let alone the possibility of him becoming the head coach.

If Schottenheimer does take the helm, the pressure will be immense. Fans are skeptical, and results on the field will ultimately need to prove that this was the right decision.
