Cowboys Scramble for a New Backup as Cooper Rush Joins Ravens

The Dallas Cowboys need a new backup quarterback after losing Cooper Rush to the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. Rush, who had been with the team for seven years, signed a two-year deal worth up to $12.2 million. Over his time in Dallas, he played 38 games, started 14, and threw for 3,463 yards with 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Cowboys went 9-5 in games he started.

Now, Dallas is on the hunt for a replacement, and it looks like they might turn to the NFL Draft to find one. Team executive Stephen Jones mentioned that they always prefer to develop a young quarterback, and the team will evaluate its options in the draft. He also pointed out that Trey Lance was originally brought in for that role, so they’ll have to reassess what’s available and make the best decision.

During Prescott’s absence last season, Rush stepped in and threw for 1,844 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions. With 10 picks in the upcoming draft, the Cowboys are likely to grab a quarterback at some point, though not necessarily in the first round. Potential targets could include Jaxson Dart or Quinn Ewers in the second or third round.

Dallas fans will have to wait and see who the team brings in to sit behind Prescott next season.
