The Dallas Cowboys haven’t had the best offseasons recently, but things might be changing with a new head coach and coaching staff in place. The team’s front office seems to be making moves, especially when it comes to re-signing their own players. Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa is reportedly close to sealing a new contract worth around $21 million per year, according to a source who spoke with Mike Fisher.
Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer praised Osa during the NFL scouting combine, saying he’s a great young player who does everything right. While nothing is official yet, the positive talks suggest it’s only a matter of time before the deal gets done — a refreshing change for Dallas, who have been slow to lock down contracts in recent years.
Osa had a solid season, posting career highs in quarterback hits (23) and sacks (4.5). He ranked 38th out of 219 interior defensive linemen on PFF and was among the top players in quarterback hurries and total pressures. While some might question if he’s worth the $21 million price tag, that’s the current market rate — and it’s better to pay him now than watch him thrive on another team. The Cowboys finally seem to be taking a proactive approach this offseason.
