The Dallas Cowboys reportedly showed interest in star wide receiver Cooper Kupp—until they heard how much he was asking for.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys reached out after Kupp was released by the Los Angeles Rams. Quarterback Dak Prescott and top receiver CeeDee Lamb even got on the phone to pitch the idea of him coming to Dallas. But once the front office heard the price—$45 million over three years, which he eventually got from the Seattle Seahawks—they backed off.
Fans Call Out Cowboys for Being Cheap—Again
This isn’t the first time Dallas has been accused of being stingy in free agency, and fans wasted no time voicing their frustration.
“So Dak and Lamb are trying to make the team better while Jerry and Stephen keep being cheapskates! You can tell who wants to win and who doesn’t,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “That’s why the Cowboys will be fighting for last place in their division.”
However, some agreed with the team’s decision, arguing that paying $15 million per season for a 32-year-old Kupp was too much. “That deal was way too rich for Kupp at this point in his career. Another smart move by the Cowboys’ front office!” one fan said.
Cowboys Take a ‘Selective’ Approach in Free Agency
Dallas did bring in a new receiver—signing Parris Campbell to a one-year deal—and also re-signed return specialist KaVontae Turpin for three years at $18 million.
Cowboys exec Stephen Jones has been upfront about the team’s approach this offseason. “We’re going to look at everything we can, we’re going to be selectively aggressive,” Jones said.
The team does have major contracts to manage, with Lamb and Prescott locked in and pass rusher Micah Parsons due for a huge extension. Dallas also freed up $56.6 million in cap space by restructuring deals for Prescott and Lamb.
With the No. 12 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Cowboys could still make a splash—but fans remain skeptical about how “all in” the front office really is.
