Crimson Tide’s LT Overton Earns High Praise, Set to Lead Alabama Defense

The Alabama Crimson Tide are primed to field one of the nation’s top defenses in Kane Wommack’s second season as defensive coordinator, despite big holes left by NFL departures. With EDGE Que Robinson drafted by the Broncos and DT Tim Smith taken by the Colts, Alabama will rely on senior standout LT Overton to anchor the front.

After transferring from Ole Miss in 2024, Overton quickly made his presence felt in Tuscaloosa. In his junior year, he racked up career-best stats with 42 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble across 13 games. His advanced metrics were equally impressive, earning an 82.3 overall PFF grade while generating 39 pressures.

Instead of declaring for the NFL Draft, Overton chose to return for his final year, solidifying himself as a key piece for Alabama’s defense in 2025. Analysts project him as a first- or second-round pick next spring.

His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed: The Athletic’s Manny Navarro ranked Overton the SEC’s fourth-best EDGE rusher and 11th-best overall player heading into the 2025 season. Navarro praised Overton’s 6-foot-5, 283-pound frame and his ability to dominate in a full-time starting role.

“The former five-star recruit led Alabama with nine QB hurries despite starting only four games,” Navarro wrote. “He should emerge as one of the SEC’s elite defenders this season.”

With Overton set to take on a larger role, Alabama’s defense looks ready to remain among the nation’s best.
