D.J. Reed Spills the Real Reason He Chose the Lions

D.J. Reed, the new Detroit Lions cornerback, had a lot of options when he became a free agent this offseason. He was one of the top free agents available, regardless of position. Reed ended up signing a deal worth $16 million a year, which made it the fifth-largest contract for his position this offseason, to join the Lions. Now, Reed has shared why he chose Detroit.

In an interview on “The Jim Rome Show” on March 28, Reed explained that his main reason for joining the Lions was his desire to win a Super Bowl. “I wanted a chance to win a Lombardi, bro,” Reed said. “I want to win with my teammates, coaches, and organization. I wanted to play meaningful football.”

This marks a big change for Reed, who spent the last three seasons with the Jets. Despite strong individual performances, the Jets never finished with a winning record while Reed was there. On the other hand, the Lions made it to the NFC Championship Game in 2023 and had an impressive 15-win season last year. With Reed now part of their defense, they’ll be hoping he’s the missing piece to help them bring home the Lombardi Trophy.
