Dallas Cowboys Free Agency Grades: Breaking Down the Running Back Moves

The Dallas Cowboys made notable moves early in NFL free agency, addressing a key need in their running back room. After losing leading rusher Rico Dowdle to the Carolina Panthers, they signed Denver Broncos’ Javonte Williams and veteran Miles Sanders, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles. This revamped group adds much-needed depth.

Despite the excitement, there’s still room for improvement, with young players like Deuce Vaughn, who had a standout preseason in his rookie year, but has yet to lock in a consistent role. His potential could be unlocked under the guidance of new offensive line coach Conor Riley, who coached Vaughn at Kansas State.

The Cowboys may also look to add another running back in the 2025 NFL Draft, where there’s a deep talent pool. For now, their free agency moves in this area earn a passing grade of C+, but the team’s strategy to balance cost-effective signings with long-term potential is worth watching.
