Dallas Targets Under-the-Radar All-American Talent

With the NFL Draft coming up fast and free agency in full swing, the Dallas Cowboys are doing their homework on potential picks. This week, they made a stop at Abilene Christian to check out running back Sam Hicks—and they liked what they saw.

After his Pro Day workout, the Cowboys reportedly met with Hicks, who had a standout season as an All-American. He’s calling himself a “hidden gem” in this draft class, and his stats back it up.

“I truly believe I’m one of the top all-purpose backs, even though I’m not a big-name guy,” Hicks said in an interview. “I led both FCS and FBS in all-purpose yards and showed out at the Tropical Bowl and College Gridiron Showcase. I came from nothing, and I’ve got a story to tell.”

Hicks started at Central Michigan before transferring to Abilene Christian for his final college season. He didn’t waste any time making an impact—racking up 1,335 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, plus 45 catches for 341 yards and three more scores. His versatility makes him an intriguing prospect, and the Cowboys seem interested.

The 2025 NFL Draft kicks off in Green Bay on April 24, and Hicks could be a name to watch.
