For a minute there, Detroit Lions fans were holding their breath like it was the final seconds of a playoff game.
When both D.J. Reed and Terrion Arnold went down against the Browns, the collective sound of “Oh no, not again” could probably be heard from Ford Field to downtown Cincinnati.
But leave it to Dan Campbell, the caffeine-fueled, knee-biting ball of optimism himself, to show up Monday afternoon with just enough good news to calm the panic.
“He’ll Be Down a While… But Not Forever!”
First up was D.J. Reed, who left the game with a hamstring injury that looked pretty rough in real time. Campbell’s update? Classic Dan:
“He’s going to be down for a while, but the good news is it’s not a season-ender.”
Translation: Yeah, it’s bad… but not Lions-level bad.
Campbell hinted that Reed might even be back in about four weeks — or, in Lions fan math, just enough time to convince yourself we’re still making the playoffs.
Arnold’s Shoulder Saga
Then there’s Terrion Arnold, who hurt his shoulder making a second-half tackle. Thankfully, this one’s not nearly as serious.
“I don’t think this is a huge thing,” Campbell said. “If it’s not this week, he should be back by next week for sure.”
So basically: no reason to cry into your Honolulu blue hoodie just yet.
Next Man Up (and Maybe Another Guy from Craigslist?)
With both starters possibly out this week, Campbell sounded confident — like, unreasonably confident — in his backups.
“Our next guys up get real reps… We’re not going to lose a beat.”
You almost believe him… until you remember he also said the same thing right before the Browns game.
Still, Amik Robertson, Rock Ya-Sin, Khalil Dorsey, and Avonte Maddox are all ready to go. And if they run out of corners? Campbell might just throw on pads himself.
The Bottom Line
Dan Campbell somehow managed to turn an injury report into a motivational speech — again. Both Reed and Arnold should return soon, the locker room’s confident, and Lions fans can exhale… at least until kickoff Sunday.
Because in Detroit, hope isn’t just a feeling — it’s a weekly cardio workout. 🦁💙
