Dan Campbell Predicts “Huge Season” for Lions WR Jameson Williams

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has come a long way—and head coach Dan Campbell thinks the best is yet to come.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Campbell couldn’t hold back his excitement about what’s ahead for the former Alabama standout. “He’s got a ton of growth left,” Campbell said. “He’s stronger, faster, and really figuring out how to stop and start on a dime. That makes him a nightmare to cover.”

Campbell noted that Williams has had a solid spring and is exactly where the team wants him to be at this stage of OTAs. “He’s grinding, man. It’s awesome to watch,” Campbell said. “We expect him to have a huge season. He’s going to be a guy we lean on.”

Williams, entering his fourth NFL season, echoed his coach’s confidence—but added some perspective of his own. “I’m still the same person,” he said, “but I go about things a little differently now. I’ve grown up. It’s not just football—it’s everything around football that helps you become better at it.”

Last season, Williams posted career highs with 58 catches for 1,001 yards and 7 touchdowns. Now, he’s stepping into more of a veteran role and says he’s ready for it. “I’ve got a little pep in my step. I just want to be more consistent, make plays when my name is called, and help us win games.”

The Lions are coming off a 15-2 regular season, but after a tough playoff loss to Washington, Williams says the team is still fueled by the memory of falling one win short of the Super Bowl the year before. “That San Fran loss still stings,” he said. “We’re not dwelling on it, but we’ve got a chip on our shoulder.”

Detroit is wrapping up its offseason program and will be the first team to report for training camp this summer. Their preseason kicks off in the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers on July 31.

If Williams delivers the way his coaches expect, he might just be one of the key reasons the Lions make another deep postseason run.
