Dan Campbell Pulls No Punches After Loss to Vikings — Sends Message to Locker Room

Dan Campbell is known for his passion and honesty — and after Sunday’s disappointing loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Detroit Lions head coach didn’t hold back. Speaking to reporters after the 27-13 defeat, Campbell called the performance “very disappointing,” admitting his team failed to play up to their standard in every phase of the game.

“This one hurts because we weren’t ourselves,” Campbell said. “We didn’t execute. We didn’t tackle. We didn’t finish. That’s not the brand of football we stand for.”

The Lions looked sluggish coming off the bye, committing costly penalties and struggling to contain rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who picked apart Detroit’s defense in his first full game back from injury. Offensively, Jared Goff and company couldn’t find a rhythm, leading to one of the team’s most uninspired outings of the season.

Despite his frustration, Campbell made it clear he’s not losing faith in his team — but he expects a much tougher, more focused group next week. “You’ve got to own it, take it on the chin, and get back to work,” he said. “We’ll find out what we’re made of now.”

Detroit will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for a critical divisional matchup that could determine whether this midseason slump is just a setback — or a warning sign for a team with big playoff dreams.
