Darius Slay vs. Amon-Ra: The War of Words Continues

Darius Slay isn’t holding back after the Eagles’ Super Bowl win, firing back at critics who claim Philadelphia wasn’t that dominant. On his “Big Play Slay” podcast, the veteran cornerback responded to Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who suggested Detroit could have beaten the Eagles with a fully healthy defense. Slay dismissed the idea, emphasizing that Philly was a powerhouse last season, finishing 14-3 and steamrolling through the playoffs.

“I’m just on a rampage now,” Slay said. “After we won, all I see on the internet is, ‘Oh, we were this close to the Eagles.’ My boy in Detroit, I love him—St. Brown is an amazing receiver—but I saw him say, ‘Yeah, man, we’ll see what we’d have done with a healthy defense.’ Maybe this is what Kansas City used to feel like with everyone taking shots at them.”

Slay pointed out that when the Eagles lost last year, they didn’t make excuses. He criticized teams for downplaying Philly’s dominance, especially after they crushed the defending champion Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

“For some teams saying they were close to us, nah, not the 2024-25 Eagles,” Slay continued. “That’s why the scores looked like they did. I think the Rams had the best chance of beating us in the postseason, but nobody else was really close.”

Despite the strong words, Slay made it clear he still has love for Detroit, the team that drafted him in 2013. He acknowledged the Lions’ progress but reiterated that last year’s Eagles were simply on another level.

As for the future, Slay dismissed the idea that any team can claim they “would have won” against last year’s Eagles. With roster changes coming, he reminded everyone that no two seasons are the same.

St. Brown recently said he wants the Lions to open the 2025 season against the Eagles, and if that happens, Slay sounds more than ready for the challenge.
