David Montgomery Expresses Joy Over Playoff Comeback for Lions

Star Running Back Ready to Power Detroit’s Ground Game Against Washington

The Detroit Lions are gearing up for their Divisional Round playoff game against the Washington Commanders, and they’re getting a major boost with the return of running back David Montgomery. After weeks of recovery from an MCL injury, Montgomery is officially back and ready to make an impact.

Montgomery’s Determined Comeback

Montgomery’s return comes after a challenging stretch where the power back feared his season might be over due to a knee injury sustained in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills. Opting for rehabilitation over surgery, Montgomery worked tirelessly to recover in time for the postseason.

“It’s refreshing,” Montgomery shared, according to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard. “Kind of to be back in the position to where I can help the team, yeah, I missed it, so happy to be back.”

Despite missing three games, Montgomery emphasized that he wouldn’t rush back unless he was fully ready. “I wouldn’t play if I wasn’t ready,” he firmly stated. His full participation in practice this week signals he’s prepared to shoulder his role in Detroit’s offense once again.

A Key Piece in Detroit’s Offensive Machine

Montgomery has been a cornerstone of the Lions’ explosive offense throughout the season. In 14 games, he racked up 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 185 carries, consistently setting the tone for Detroit’s ground attack.

His powerful running style perfectly complements rookie standout Jahmyr Gibbs, forming a dynamic backfield duo that helped the Lions become the NFL’s top-scoring offense. Head coach Dan Campbell underscored Montgomery’s importance:

“Five’s a big part of us. He’s a huge part of us, and to me, he’s a bell cow. He’s somebody that is a tone-setter. He’s a catalyst, so there’s a place for him. There’s a place for him here, so there’ll be a place for him in this game. So it’s going to be good to get him back.”

Lions Hold Ground Game Edge Against Commanders

Montgomery’s return couldn’t come at a better time. Detroit’s rushing attack ranked sixth in the NFL this season, and they’ll face a Washington defense that struggled against the run, finishing 30th overall.

With Montgomery’s bruising style and Gibbs’ explosive playmaking, the Lions are poised to dominate the ground game and control the tempo against the Commanders. This powerful rushing duo could be the key to pushing Detroit one step closer to their first Super Bowl appearance.

As the Lions prepare for Saturday’s showdown, Montgomery’s return provides not only a physical edge but also a morale boost. His resilience and determination embody the grit of this Detroit team, making them an even more formidable force in the postseason.

The stage is set, and David Montgomery is ready to make his mark.
