Calgary Stampeders Revamp Secondary in Free Agency
The Calgary Stampeders are making defense their top priority this offseason, bringing in a wave of talent to strengthen their secondary. The headline signing is Damon Webb, a former Ottawa Redblacks defensive back who earned CFL All-Star honors in 2024. Webb racked up five interceptions, two pick-sixes, 68 defensive tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble last season, making him one of the league’s top playmakers. Now, he’s bringing that confidence to Calgary, declaring, “In my head, I’m the best DB in the CFL.”
Joining Webb in the revamped defensive backfield is Adrian Greene, a former BC Lions standout who tied for the team lead in interceptions last year. Greene, a fourth-round pick in 2022, has developed into a reliable presence in the secondary and is eager to prove himself in a new system. The Stampeders also signed Godfrey Onyeka, a veteran CFL defensive back and special-teams ace, along with Marloshawn Franklin Jr. and Anthony Cook, both of whom bring experience and versatility.
With Barron Miles taking over as defensive coordinator, the Stamps’ secondary is shaping up to be a force in 2025. The team will look to improve on last season’s struggles and build a defense that can compete with the CFL’s best. If these new additions live up to their potential, Calgary could be in for a major defensive turnaround this year.
