Desperate for a Boost, Canadian Conservatives Look to Trump

Canada’s upcoming election is shaping up to be a battle over sovereignty, and things just got more complicated. A major conservative leader, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, reportedly asked Trump officials to hold off on trade tariffs and suggested that Pierre Poilievre would be a better ally for Trump’s administration.

In an interview with **Breitbart**, Smith implied that Poilievre’s leadership would align well with Trump’s policies. She even asked U.S. officials to delay imposing tariffs, arguing that they were benefiting the Liberals politically.

Meanwhile, Poilievre, once the clear frontrunner, has seen his poll numbers drop behind Mark Carney. Many Canadians worry about his ties to Trump, with a recent poll showing that 43% believe Poilievre would “roll over” to Trump’s demands.

Trump, for his part, hasn’t helped Poilievre’s case. When asked about Canada’s election on **Fox News**, he bluntly dismissed the Conservative leader, saying, “The Conservative that’s running is stupidly no friend of mine… I think it’s easier to deal actually with a Liberal.”

Poilievre’s team has reportedly been scrambling to distance him from Trump, even considering reaching out to White House officials to shift Trump’s stance. But the question remains: Will Canadians buy it?
