After LeBron James picked up his $52.6 million player option for next season, it looked like he’d stay put with the Los Angeles Lakers. But that hasn’t stopped multiple teams from quietly reaching out to see if a trade might be possible.
According to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst, rival executives have called the Lakers to gauge the chances of landing the 40-year-old star. While a trade isn’t impossible, James’ massive salary and his rare no-trade clause make it highly unlikely. At least four teams have reportedly checked in so far.
LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, recently emphasized that James wants to compete for championships — setting high expectations for the Lakers if they hope to keep him happy. And even at age 40, LeBron is still producing at an elite level, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists last season on impressive shooting splits.

Alen Smailagic Nearing Virtus Bologna Move After Zalgiris Exit Talks
Serbian big man Alen Smailagic is close to leaving Zalgiris Kaunas and joining Virtus Bologna, according to BasketNews sources. Virtus is reportedly working on a buyout for the 24-year-old, who still has a year left on his contract.
Zalgiris is expected to replace Smailagic with rising talent Azuolas Tubelis. Last season in the EuroLeague, Smailagic averaged 8.1 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 68% from two-point range. His standout performance came with a 24-point, 6-rebound effort against Fenerbahce.
If finalized, Smailagic would bolster Virtus Bologna’s frontcourt as they reshape their roster heading into the new season.
