Detroit, MI – July 4, 2025 — The Detroit Tigers have officially activated right-handed pitcher Reese Olson ahead of their upcoming series against the Cleveland Guardians. Olson is expected to start in tonight’s game, giving the Tigers a fresh arm as they look to gain ground in the AL Central standings.
Olson, 24, had been sidelined temporarily due to arm fatigue but completed a successful rehab stint with Triple-A Toledo, showing improved velocity and command. His return adds much-needed depth to the Tigers’ rotation, which has battled injuries and inconsistency throughout the first half of the season.
“We’ve been monitoring Reese closely, and he’s looked sharp in his recent outings,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. “We’re excited to have him back on the mound, especially in a key series like this one.”
Before his brief absence, Olson posted a 3.86 ERA with 72 strikeouts across 77 innings. Known for his lively fastball and deceptive changeup, he’ll be tasked with containing a Guardians lineup that has been heating up in recent weeks.
To make room on the roster, Detroit optioned reliever Mason Englert to Triple-A Toledo. The team hopes Olson’s return can help stabilize a rotation that has seen several moving parts this season.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET at Comerica Park, with Olson set to face off against Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee.
