The Detroit Lions are keeping one of their key special teams players around, re-signing cornerback Khalil Dorsey. The team made the announcement Thursday on social media.
Dorsey’s return comes shortly after the Lions picked up veteran cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, who last played for the 49ers.
At 26, Dorsey has bounced around the league with the Ravens and Giants before settling in with the Lions. While he contributes as a cornerback, his biggest impact has been on special teams. In 2023, he played 248 special teams snaps in 13 games. Last season, he saw even more action—logging a career-high 73 snaps on defense and 272 on special teams. He wrapped up the season with 14 tackles, two pass breakups, and even returned four kicks for 159 yards.
Unfortunately, his 2024 season ended early due to a serious ankle injury in Week 15 against the Bills, forcing him to be carted off the field.
With Dorsey and Ya-Sin in the mix, Detroit now has seven cornerbacks under contract, including D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw, Amik Robertson, and Stantley Thomas-Oliver.
