Detroit Emerges as Top Suitor for All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey

The Miami Dolphins and star cornerback Jalen Ramsey are heading for a split — and the buzz around his next landing spot is growing fast. One intriguing possibility? The Detroit Lions.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ramsey and the Dolphins have mutually agreed to part ways. Miami’s GM Chris Grier confirmed it’s best for both sides to move forward, and if a deal doesn’t materialize, they’ll “deal with it.” But CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan thinks Detroit should absolutely be making that call.

And honestly, the fit makes a lot of sense.

The Lions are coming off a 15-2 season and were one win away from the Super Bowl. This team isn’t rebuilding — they’re ready to win now. Adding a player like Ramsey, a three-time All-Pro with big-game experience and a tough, fiery attitude, could be just the boost the secondary needs.

Yes, Detroit already added D.J. Reed and drafted Alabama standout Terrion Arnold, but last season’s defense still gave up 244 passing yards a game — third most in the NFL. For a team with championship aspirations, depth and reliability at corner are critical.

Ramsey does come with some risk — he turns 30 this year and has battled injuries — but his upside is undeniable when he’s healthy. Brad Holmes, Detroit’s GM, even has history with Ramsey, having been part of the Rams front office that traded for him in 2019.

If the cost is reasonable and the money works, this could be one of those smart, aggressive moves that contenders make. The Lions don’t need a rebuild. They need finishers. And Ramsey might just be the kind of player who helps get them over the top.

Whether the Lions make a move remains to be seen — but the opportunity is there. And the fit is hard to ignore.
