Detroit Lions Rookie Miles Frazier Still Waiting on First NFL Action as Recovery Drags On.
At the start of training camp in July, the Detroit Lions received tough news: rookie offensive lineman Miles Frazier suffered a knee injury that would sideline him for an extended period.
Head coach Dan Campbell told reporters at the time that the expectation was for the rookie to return sometime in September or October. Now, a few months later, fans were hoping for encouraging updates — but the progress hasn’t been as quick as the team hoped.
Speaking to the media this week (via Pride of Detroit), Campbell admitted that Frazier’s recovery is taking longer than expected. However, he added an optimistic note: “I believe we have a chance to get him back this season.”
Frazier’s Rookie Year Stalled Before It Began
The setback is disappointing for both player and team. Frazier missed all of training camp and the preseason, critical reps for a rookie trying to establish himself in the NFL. Detroit placed him on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, where he remains as he continues to rehab.
The Lions weren’t necessarily counting on Frazier to earn a starting spot right away, with veteran guards already anchoring the offensive line. But a healthy Frazier could have competed for a backup role at guard or tackle. Instead, his absence opened the door for Trystan Colon and Kayode Awosika to strengthen their cases for roster spots.
What Frazier Brings When Healthy
Coming out of LSU, the 6-foot-5, 324-pound lineman showed real promise. Over three seasons, he allowed only 29 quarterback pressures, 22 hurries, four sacks, and three QB hits — strong numbers against SEC competition.
Scouts noted his footwork and quickness, traits that give him versatility to line up both at guard and tackle. He’s also a capable run blocker, often creating clean lanes by pushing defenders out of the gap.
These are the tools Detroit hoped to develop this season. Instead, his progress has been slowed, forcing both player and team to take the long view.
Looking Ahead
For now, Campbell’s belief that Frazier could return before the season ends provides a bit of hope. Still, if his rookie year ends without playing time, it would put him “behind the 8-ball” heading into 2026.
The Lions continue to wait on their rookie lineman, knowing that patience may be the only option.
